MEET CARLOS YADO

Carlos Yado is a fire safety executive, community development professional, coach, husband, and father who has dedicated his career to serving others and strengthening communities.
As a Deputy Chief serving the nation’s largest four-year public university system, Carlos helps oversee fire and life safety across university campuses. His responsibilities include protecting campus buildings and safeguarding the students, faculty, staff, and visitors who use them every day. His professional experience spans public safety, fire prevention, building and code enforcement, organizational leadership, economic development, and municipal operations.
A COMMITMENT TO SERVICE
Throughout his career, Carlos has brought people together to solve complex problems, improve public services, and build stronger organizations. He believes effective leadership begins with listening, communicating honestly, and being accountable for results.
Carlos earned a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Arizona State University, strengthening his ability to lead teams, manage change, resolve conflict, and develop practical solutions to organizational and community challenges.
His approach to public service is straightforward: protect taxpayer dollars, prioritize essential services, support public safety, and make decisions based on what is best for the community, not politics or special interests.
ROOTED IN FAMILY AND COMMUNITY
For Carlos, West Covina is more than a place on a map. It is where families build their lives, young people pursue their dreams, and neighbors come together to create a stronger community.
Carlos and his wife are proud parents of two children. Their daughter is studying chemical engineering at USC, and their son is studying political science and playing college football at Whittier College. Faith, family, education, and service remain at the center of their lives.
Carlos has also spent years coaching and mentoring young people through athletics. He serves as a high school varsity soccer coach and as the associate head coach of a professional MLS Unified Team, which brings together athletes with and without intellectual disabilities through Special Olympics. Coaching has reinforced his belief that strong communities are built through opportunity, inclusion, discipline, and teamwork.
WHY CARLOS IS RUNNING
Carlos is running for West Covina City Council, District 2, because residents deserve leadership that is experienced, accessible, and responsible with public resources.
He wants to ensure West Covina remains a safe, financially stable, and welcoming city for families, seniors, and local businesses. His priorities include responsible budgeting, strong public safety services, well-maintained neighborhoods, thoughtful economic development, and greater transparency at City Hall.
Carlos is ready to bring practical experience, independent leadership, and a resident-first approach to the City Council.
